The recent dissolution of Parliament has once again triggered a constitutional and political storm in Nepal. CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has called the move unconstitutional, labeling it a direct threat to democracy.
In his remarks at the UML Bhaktapur District Committee program, Oli claimed that the government has violated the very principles it was sworn to protect. He disclosed that previous consensus among political leaders emphasized preserving both the Constitution and Parliament to resolve political disputes. The sudden deviation from this principle, according to Oli, undermines democratic norms.
Oli’s demand for the immediate reinstatement of Parliament and his call for a nationwide movement indicate rising political tension. His statement, “There is no other path but to restore Parliament and bring the country back to the democratic track,” signals that the opposition may now escalate protests if the government refuses to reverse its decision.
Political analysts believe Oli’s remarks could reignite mass mobilization and intensify the ongoing debate about constitutional interpretation, governance, and the balance of power in Nepal.
